No not entirely (the smell). with us a bag last about a week as they can hold a lot. However once its full and you open it yes it then does smell but up until it needs changed theres no smell. Also if there is a smell from a diaper it goes away after the lid is closed.
I didnt buy one cause my mom also said the smell was horrible and it didnt work. but its amazing.
its like a trash can but it seals tight and keeps smell away. theres even a little circle thing of i think baking soda? and you change it every 3 months keeps bacteria and smell away. the bag pulls down then you tie the bottom and pull it down then your all set:)

I've heard that the bacteria can accumulate and then when you open it, the smell is HORRIBLE. Is that true @emmajeremy2627?
