I need parenting advice! Please be polite-----
I am a single mother, almost 39 weeks pregnant, and I have a 5 year old who will be 6 in October. His dad isn't as strict as I am in his own home, but he respects his father's word much more than he does mine. I am struggling on getting my son to listen to me. Generally, he isn't a bad kid, but lately he has been fighting me when it comes to getting his way. If he wants to play a video game and I say no, he proceeds to speak over me, loudly, sometimes crying, asking why and pretty please, or will continuously ask me over and over again thinking his persistence is funny (something his father encourages.) His dad encourages him to also speak to me bluntly in ways a child should not speak to their mother. Like "hurry up mom." or "what's taking so long?" or "MOM, I SAID...." Well today's latest battle was over lunch. I made him a corndog and chopped up a few fresh strawberries (and even sprinkled it with sugar). He ate the corndog and then had a meltdown about the strawberries. He says his dad doesn't make him eat them and he doesn't like them and just had a complete meltdown. I told him he could either eat the strawberries and finish watching his movie when he was done, or he could skip the strawberries and go straight to bed. He sits at the table for 30 minutes and didn't eat them, asking me why I'm making him eat them and he doesn't want to, etc. I finally make him get down, go potty, and get in bed. He then proceeded to start screaming and crying and kicking the wall and his bed, high pitched screeching into his pillow. Repeating over and over again that he wants a movie, and then starts on and on about how he's hungry. Numerous commands to stop behaving that way, shut his mouth and close his eyes, an open palm swat on the butt and a pop to the mouth and he still wouldn't stop. I finally had to pull out the belt and give him two swats on the side of his leg. I hate resorting to that and it makes me feel so bad. He doesn't have any marks and I didn't hurt him but I can't have him throwing fits like this and disrespecting me, especially with the new baby on the way. So I guess what I'm asking is are there any other women struggling with this and are there any other ways to handle it that you could suggest? He's generally a good kid but he's really struggling with the issues between his dad and mines parenting and I see it more and more the more independent he gets. 😰
I have no control over his dad. speaking to him is a joke. I've tried sooo many times. he only has his for two days a week so I've been really hoping that time wouldn't be detrimental and it's proving to be...doesn't help that my son spends time with my 8 yr old niece and 10 year old nephew and picks up a lot of their behaviors...I was taught to mind my ps and qs too. he knows his manners, and this is NOT the little boy I'm raising him to be 😕😭
I think its the age. My nephew is 8 and is so rude to everyone if he doesnt get what he wants and does the whole kicking walls slamming doors and yelling ect... My sister says she gets tired of telling him to stop or spanking and even with belt. But me on the other hand cant stand a disrespectful child. My mom tought us to mind our elders. Or atleast be quite. I would talk to his father and make it same rules at both homes.
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
Lastnight I was talking to my father in laws girl friend about the situation with my husband. She told his dad about it and he texted rick😒. Well I asked him what he said to his dad and he said "nothing, I didn't want to make you look like a fool for telling me to leave"! Little does he know that his dad agreed with me that I was right to tell him to leave! He said that he appreciates me taking such good care if his son and grandbabies and I'm like a daughter to him and if I ever need him to wAt...
Totally irrational so please no judgement... baby daddy is over for visitation and he took Karoline's picture and it infuriated me. I don't want him having pictures of my daughter. He just posts them on social media and claims how we keep him from Karoline and what a great dad he is even though he doesn't do shit. How do I get over this mamas? I'm really struggling with it lately. I just don't want him to have any part, seeing him with my daughter disgusts me .
opinions?
I told Jeff I want to leave. He said that he doesn't love me and I feel the same way about him. However when I asked him if I could keep paying my share of the bills while saving enough to leave he said if I'm going to leave I need to go now. This is what he always does. He says he doesn't want me but when I try to leave he manipulates me.
Question. I just left my husband for cheating and now hes been harassing me. Hes threatening to come get our son. I dont care if he sees his son but I'm not comfortable with him leaving with him bc hes never taken care of him a day In his life and he might use him against me. Am I wrong for feeling this way??
Well i say keep it up. And hopefully he learnes that that behavior is not acceptable...
