You could always just do like maybe half the amount you wanted because not everyone may want to do it or you could add that to your invitation that they can bring some sort of blank clothing item for the baby to decorate and you will have a decorating station set up for those who want to

The 5 for $4ish is probably your best bet. It makes it less than a dollar for one whereas the larger packs with 10 wind up being between $2.50 and $3 each.

Yeah, 40 onesies is a lot. Might be hard to find especially for a good price. Another thing I've seen people do at showers is diaper decorating. People can decorate or write inspirational messages to you on diapers so you get to read something nice while changing a dirty diaper haha. Plus it's something you have to buy for baby anyway so it's all getting used.
