At our next appointment my doctor told us we could get genetic testing done. Opinions?

@bry142, I wouldn't worry about paying extra then....not unless you just want peace of mind. Good luck 💜

@babymama85, no it will not matter if our baby has a defect abortion isn't even an option for us.

@bry142, I found out with my first baby I'm a carrier for cystic fibrosis. We opted out of testing my husband because it was expensive. I know it's nice to be prepared, but if your baby does have a defect, will it matter??? I wouldn't have an abortion regardless, so I wasn't too worried about it.

Of course :) but again there is absolutely nothing wrong with getting the tests done! Although false positives are common it doesn't mean it happens to everyone! Whatever makes you feel comfortable is what you should do ☺️

@emkasting, that makes complete sense. I brought that up to him. We have a couple more weeks to decide. Thank you for your input.

I opted out. Neither my boyfriend or myself have any history of any genetic disorders in our family and the tests are only about 70% accurate. and I found out that a lot of insurance won't cover all of it and some people have told me they had to spend over $3k out of pocket just for those tests. There are a ton of instances where women have gotten false positives. For me personally given all those factors it wasn't worth it, I didn't want to get a false positive then spend the whole pregnancy wondering and worrying and then nothing turn out to be wrong, especially when we would not opt to terminate anyways. My doctors told me to consider all of those factors and after doing so and talking to my baby's dad we decided the best thing was to opt out. No judgment on anyone that decided to get it done, not at all! Just our own personal reasons :))

They said after taking my blood it would take a week for the results and they came back with the ultrasounds that day

@bry142 I had it done, it was awesome finding out the early gives you more time to plan and it take 10days they say but i found out like a week or two. They just take your blood then call you back with results and then they ask if you like to know the gender and then they tell you.

I'm going to ask them when they take blood then. How long did it take to find out? @klove2016

@bry142, yep. They take blood from you and do genetic testing and also can see the baby DNA. Its more accurate that ultrasounds. Mine was called the paternity test

I had it done. Also can tell you gender of baby. But you have to ask for them to run that test. We found out at 11 weeks.
