My mom made me feel guilty for wearing nail polish tonight. She said I need to take it off around a newborn because it's not safe for them in case they put your fingers in their mouth. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I feel like hands are dirty regardless, but know that there are chemicals in nail polish. Help!

@alohaimcait @amo561 thank you- my mothers middle name should be "overreaction"- I need to quit worrying about what she says!!

I would google it I guess but it sounds like a bit of an overreaction to me! I think I would have let my nails dry and washed my hands before dealing with baby, and then not thought twice about it :)

I think grandparents are naturally inclined to be even more neurotic than parents. I don't think it's an issue at all, but if you are worried about it yea, just get "baby safe" nail polish. But to keep it in perspective, babies tend to put much more filthy things in their little mouths than nail polish.

Thank you! @angiek :) I use Essie and OPI and I think they are 3 or 5 free but not 7. Will look into it!

@brooklynsmom, if you are worried about it, I'd switch to a 7 free non toxic polish like trust fund or Pacifica, I switched when I got pregnant

to each their own butt everyone I know always get your nails done even with newborns and they are okay they have no teeth to bite the polish off and by then any chemical should have dried
