I have a Male Dominican friend named Ariel. However, I think kids can be cruel and he may get tormented in the younger school years.

Yes, I have heard men with that name. They're Hispanic but it's definitely unisex.
I personally had no clue that it was a unisex name. And like other ladies have said, you have to think about other kids in his age group and how they might torment your son if you name him that. Maybe you can name him that and just go by his middle name so he still has Ariel for his first name?
