funny thought. I live in Michigan and am on medical cannabis for epilepsy but quit since I'm pregnant but sitting here thinking after the baby is born my milk is gonna be THC infused lmfao! (they said to breast feed before I do my cannabis or wait until after probably gonna pump enough for a few days) but idk if I can still breast feed with the cannabis and my seizure meds I'm on I asked my doctor and she said to wait until I don't feel the effects of the cannabis or pump before but since then my seizure meds have gone up to 1000 mg.
But I'm not sure about seizure meds! I'm pretty well versed on anything having to deal with cannabis and pregnancy/breastfeeding but I can't say I know anything about those other types of meds :/ wish I could help!
Do you have the What to Expect app? If not download it and join the group "ganja mamas" the ladies there are really knowledgeable and so nice. From what I've seen from friends on there it is a personal choice on whether or not to smoke while breastfeeding. The baby can not get High, and not enough THC passes through to make a baby test positive on a drug test or anything. It is such a minuscule amount
@jessicahartze So far so good but have had a few scares with them
wow! A lot of good information in the comments. I do t smoke or use cannabis in any way but have always been curious about this anyway.
i get contact highs when my bf smokes, which helps my eating problem and also the pain in my back. I hope you don't have one either!
@jessicahartze it's the only thing that controls my seizures I'm so scared about having one while pregnant but I have 10 more weeks and I can start my meds again. I have a rule of no smoking in the house my boyfriend is also a patient he has had injury to his back and hand so he still smokes but he's gotta go outside (in the bathroom with the window open in the winter time)
that's the sad part @courtney017 I'm in a state that thinks cannabis is the devil. just gotta wait until I can move to Colorado.
@santistevanmommie I gained weight when I first started cannabis but it went back down when I could maintain my hunger on it
@jessicahartze if you are in a legal state and have a card they shouldn't bother you
@leyaatheblondiee, no one truly knows the effects of cannabis while breastfeeding. it sucks because I'm only concerned about CPS (cannabis is in my opinion safe for a child or anyone in the matter)
You're welcome! It's the same component that makes you want to eat when you smoke and makes your drowsy
Did you know your breastmilk has natural contents of cannabis in it? I did a lot of research on cannabis and the effects it can have on baby if smoked while breastfeeding and there isn't any. If anything it'll make baby a little sleepy.
@leyaatheblondieem I think it is but I think they don't want me trying to feed her if I'm buzzed from it which I won't because I know I need to concentrate on feeding her
I thought cannabis was safe because it can't get through breast milk... am I just wrong here?
@littlemissrainesmommy My doctor didn't care about the cannabis at all she just said okay and told me to feed before or after but at the time the amount I was on for my meds was okay but idk now because it's so high
I hope you can still breastfeed while taking it!!! definitely ask about it or research. who knows, maybe there is another kind that is known to be safe for breastfeeding!
@katarama that's what I was gonna do. I'm just scared because of the keppra
@littlemissrainesmommy I will cry if they tell me no because of the keppra.
The cannabis should be no problem when it comes to breastfeeding... but idk bout the seizure meds :/
I am on keppra and was at 750mg twice a day and now it's 1000mg twice a day
I would do it before. You can also pump and store milk just in case baby gets hungry while you're still feeling it.
So I took my meds at like 9pm last night I woke up at 2:45am with my breast killing me... begging that I took meds should I keep the milk I pumped??
So if my insurance approved my breast pump a month before I deliver and my doctor won't approve it until 6 weeks post partum has any one ever been told this this crap? Now I can't get a breast pump because they won't sign the prescription until I have my baby and wait 6 weeks just for them to fax back a piece of paper said it's not necessary to have one
Quick question to breast feeding mum i would like to breast feed my baby when she comes as I’ve never really breast fed my other 2, is it uncomfortable also how is pumping out milk????? For bottle feeds is the pump uncomfortable... I would normally just breast feed and not pump when home but I do drive so when I’m out and can’t stop I’ll have to use a bottle...I remember trying to breast feed my youngest and I keeped getting milk ducts why was that??? I think that’s why I gave up as I was scared...

took me 10 minutes to pump this from both breast after feeding Ethan for 25 minutes. My milk supply is going crazy yesterday I pumped 8 bottles my milk stash is going to be great
Ladies I called my insurance about breast pump and they said with their insurance in order to get a pump I get a prescription from doctor then I call 3 different numbers to see what my insurance covers but the only thing is I have to wait til baby is born to call and get pump so I want to at least buy a hand pump which do you ladies recommend for hand pump and when I can get a pump from insurance please n thank you 💖💖
Honestly you could probably ask a pharmacist about your meds and if you can breastfeed
