How to Stop My Dog from Chewing and Peeing Everywhere?
I wish my boyfriend and mother didn't get a dog.. he won't stop chewing on shoes, walls, now our bathroom floor & wall! I'm trying to teach him not to do that but its not working. I got advice before from you mom's but he don't wanna work with me. so frustrating & he won't stop going bathroom all over the house I rub his nose in it, put him outside on his chain and he still keeps on doing it. we put puppy pads down but all he does it chew those up. 😳😳 idk what else to do and everyone is at school or work so I have to take care of him
I definitely recommend crate training (don't use it as punishment) and using positive reinforcement. The whole family will definitely have to follow through because consistency is key. He's also probably bored, so I'd suggest some sturdy toys he can play with. If he's chewing things he shouldn't, remove him from that situation and give him his own toy and reward him for chewing on it instead. You can also look online for some do-it-yourself toys, like putting some kibble in a bottle so he has to work to get it out. Teaching basic commands can also burn some energy. Try taking him out every one or two hours, depending on his age so that he can get accustomed to doing his business outside. Puppies have a hard time controlling their bladders up until anywhere between 6-8 months. If possible, try to find a positive reinforcement trainer in the area, or maybe even a dog walking group. I know it sucks to take care of someone else's pet, especially an untrained one, but try to look at it as a fun experience. Dogs can feel your frustration but they have no idea of knowing what they did wrong. Definitely look up some positive ways to burn his energy down and get his mind working. You can usually find some pretty simple and fun ways that you don't have to go spend a ton of money to do. In the shelter I used to work for, we would make busy boxes for some of our more playful, bored dogs and puppies. A tired dog is a well-behaved dog.
My dog took forever to potty train!! Finally I literally walked him outside for at least an hr, I was not taking him in until he peed outside, and he finally peed outside! I rewarded him so much after he did that!! It takes time and patience
Someone in the house needs to be establishes as that dogs pack leader. dogs will not disobey their pack leader, so whoever his owner is needs to step up and start excersising him, teaching him right from wrong, and training him. it sounds like he has a major play drive, which is GREAT. using playing to train is the most effective way. but if your the one who's doing all these things and he's not your dog, he will not listen to his owner which is bad for their owner/pet relationship. this dog is establishing itself as the alpha, the pack leader. that's why nothing your doing is working because no one has shown him he is NOT alpha dog.
rubbing his nose in it won't do anything. you have to let him know you're the boss but also reward him for his good behavior. be stern in your voice when he does bad but don't yell. take him for walks with a leash and work discipline with him. puppies take time but if you do it right you should be fine
