I'm shocked. I work with this girl who was 37 weeks pregnant this week. She apparently tried Caster Oil on Sunday and then had her baby late last night. The baby is in the NICU because the baby had a bowel movement and the poor thing inhaled it. It's looking like the baby isn't recovering well. I'm so livid. 37 weeks. She made it all the way to 37 weeks...why couldn't she wait 3 more weeks to a month at the longest. I don't care how uncomfortable you are..I don't care how bad your legs hurt, or the heartburn is, or how you can't sleep at night. I don't care! That baby is your CHILD. This little, precious, innocent baby had only her mother to depend on, and now this poor little girl is going to have life long issues if she makes it out alive. My work is collecting money for my coworker, but I want to scream! Nobody is mentioning or talking about how this ALL her fault! Bottom line. If your doctor (THE PROFESSIONAL) thinks it's time for the baby to make an exit, then the doctor will talk to you about medical induction. Walking, sexual intercourse, and yoga are all NATURAL ways. Caster Oil is NOT. She obviously isn't mature enough to have a child. I'm so sad for this little baby.

@momily23, did you even read my original post? I literally said walking, sexual intercourse, ect. we're all natural. Taking a supplement to trigger your bowels and your body to react unnaturally is not natural. Plus, walking and intercourse will only work if your body is good and ready. That's a fact. Taking a supplement like Caster Oil will force your bowels to react. I'm done discussing this with you, because you obviously didn't even read anything I wrote.. I'm sorry that you're not understanding. I honestly don't know how to be anymore clear. And for one last time, THIS IS SOMEONE I KNOW PERSONALLY. You better believe I'm not just "blasting her online"..when she comes asking around why I didn't donate, I will tell her it's because I'm all for making mistakes, but doing something intentional to put your baby in harms way is not going to make me hand over money. You've been a member here for like 3 days. If you knew me at all, you'd know I'm probably the nicest most caring person around..

I guess you are justified in passing judgement.

I know countless women who hit 37 weeks ago start running up and down stairs, having sex, going on long walks all to try and get things started because they are "over it" but I guess the right thing to do is blast them online and some how get other woman to bash her. 👌

@momily23, if you would have read into my previous posts you would know that my case was unique. My daughter was large, and they couldn't pin point an exact due date. So, as of her growth, she looked to be two weeks late. However, when looking at my ovulation and conception chart (yes. I keep one. I'm weird. I know..) she was conceived on Oct 23, and born EXACTLY 9 months later on July 23rd. And, I had a non-stress test done every single day starting four days after my "due date". So. No. I didn't put my daughter in any danger. I'll say this one last time. I know this girl PERSONALLY. She put her baby at risk because she was "over it". If you're mad because I judge that, then be mad. I refuse to befriend anyone who thinks its okay to put a baby in harms way intentionally.

True its hard to make the call...for example my twins made it to 40w, even though the Dr started talking induction and csection at 37w (twins arent usually "allowed" past 38)...I went with my gut and it was the right decision because it gave my daughter time to get passed 5lbs and not be in the NICU. We all have to make hard decisions in the face of motherhood for sure, and some probably have more common sense than others lol but that's life! I am sure the last thing a mom who almost loses her baby (or does lose them) wants is to hear how awful they are...I cant imagine losing a baby and blaming myself. @momily23

@tahtahme, it's possible that the stress of being induced could of caused the BM, that being said this happens all the time and could of been the result of many things. I just really dislike when people hop on a band wagon and starting tearing people apart for something they already feel burden by. I can't stand mom bashing. We all try our best and we all make mistakes. Sometimes we get away with out mistakes or sometimes other things happened that we can't help but blame ourselves for. Being a mom is hard enough with out other people judging and shaming us. The OP said she delivered late even though on said they could induce. Most ob won't allow you to go past over one week because it puts a lot of unneccary stress on the baby. In her case if something would of happened to the baby would she want people to start questing her judgement? Probably not.

I went 40+5 and my OBGYN said not to use castor oil . She had me try natural ways and drink a special tea. She told me it was dangerous to use caster oil.

Wouldn't you say that her trying to induce baby is whet caused the bowel movement, not the actual oil? Baby being stressed can lead to pooping in the womb, I have heard. and this isnt the first time someone taking Castor oil has made the baby stressed. @momily23

@momily23, and all I'm saying is I'm not being judgmental. Every single persons body handles things differently. She posted that it was, in fact, the Caster Oil that caused all the issues. These are her words.

All I am saying is there is 0 link between taking castor oil and having a bowel movement in uterine. In fact your risk of that goes up significantly if you go past term.

It's literally the most crappy thing to go into preterm labor. Sure the end of pregnancy sounds terrible but i would prefer to endure weeks of endless exhaustion over my baby having any health risks. 😕

@aubz, oh my gosh! That's crazy! @kimberlyyyy went into preteen labor also. After seeing so many women have so many complications for having done nothing wrong, I want to loose it on people who take stuff to induce who have no reason except being "over it" .

Don't bite your tongue! Tell her how it is. She's any idiot and had no idea how lucky she was to make it that far! I went into preterm labor at 27weeks and got put on so much medication!! I luckily made it to 35week with 4days. I was dilated to 4 at 31weeks. Bed rest for 2 months and this lady has the audacity to take castor oil AT 37WEEKS? Slap her when she gets back to work.

@momily23, they are collecting money for someone who took something that has been proven to cause complications. I will not stand beside her and support a choice she made. A mistake is something that happens when it is accidental. Her choice was deliberate. Accidental is turning your back for a second while your child takes a bite of dog food. Accidental is when you eat something that you had no idea would be bad for the baby. Taking something that has recorded cases of causing issues, and you know better is not acceptable, nor accidental. The last thing I'm being his judgmental. I know this girl personally. This isn't somebody random on the Internet. The whole pregnancy she's been looking for a way out… Looking for a way to have her baby… And it looks like she found that way… With complications. I would never be judgmental for somebody who goes through something that is legitimately an accident. In not "making assumptions". I know for a fact what she was trying to do.

Ok this is the thing about motherhood that drives me nuts. The overly judgmental people making assumptions. I work in the health care industry (in trauma) my MIL has been a L&d nurse for 25+ years. Castor oil didn't cause this baby to have a bowl movement in uterine. The two things are NOT related. That being said your L&D nurses and dr. Will hate you if you do take it because it loosens your (not baby) bowls and the smell is gross.

Let's not put blame on this mom for something that is probably eating her away when in fact is more then likely not even her fault. As moms we all make dumb mistakes we don't need other moms to talk crap and make us feel worse. We are suppose to come together and support one another.

My baby's health is more important. I'm sure all mamas are anxious to meet their baby, but I would never do anything to jeopardize her health. The ONLY reason I was induced, was because I developed preeclampsia and my bp was dangerously high to the point they were afraid of seizures and more. I feel so sad for the little baby. 😞

@anerruny12, I hear ya! My daughter was over 9lbs and I have a petite frame. My doctor said I "could" induce at 40 weeks if I wanted to, but I didn't want to even force it then. She was 1 week and 6 days over due. Haha. But, she's as healthy as can be. (Side note: we are both from Sacramento area!)

I just asked my doctor about the castor oil today she said no it's not safe which id rather have a healthy baby instead of a nicu baby.. She said dates which is a fruit can help but I told her forget it I'll see u in a week then we can go from there

@mrsmoore, I know she will eventually come back to work, and it will be so hard for me to bite my tongue. I don't have her on social media, but one of my friends told me she posted a status on Facebook talking about how she "just wanted to meet her baby already. I was 37 weeks, and that's considered full term!". Like, NO! You can't make excuses! Even if she was 41 weeks, that still doesn't mean the baby would have a bowel movement.

I just absolutely love some women on here! Some woman wants to write on another women's post telling her she shouldn't be having sex at all in the beginning of pregnancy. I didn't know she was her doctor. Then she wants to tell me that the first trimester is only 1-9 weeks pregnant. And she lost her baby at 4 weeks pregnant due to sex. Like sweetie that's your period starting!

I don't care what ppl think of me, but I'm seriously considering putting my baby up for adoption. I love her with all of heart, but doing this alone is hard. Every single night she just screams to the top of her lungs and I do everything to soothe her. I don't know what to do at all. I wish I had some kind of help. I don't have a single ounce of help. I don't know a single soul in Minnesota either.
