Okay so I was diagnosed with postpartum depression immediately following birth, mainly because I was depressed to begin with. My midwife prescribed me celexa which was working wonderfully, and was said to be the safest to take while breastfeeding. Of course, I couldn't see my midwife anymore after that since I had my baby, and so I went to my primary doctor with the issue. She took me off the celexa and put me on Zoloft, which she researched was safer. However, during the trial month, it did nothing for me and I was never as bad as I was during that month. It was awful. She then switched me to Prozac, what another doctor recommended before putting me back on the celexa. I don't know how the Prozac is working for me yet since it's so soon, but if it doesn't work, then I may just have to stop breastfeeding just so I can help my depression. It's so disheartening. I don't know why I couldn't just continue the celexa, since I would think the midwives would know what they are talking about when it comes to what passes through breastmilk. I'm so frustrated as well as disappointed if I'll have to stop breastfeeding for this. But I need to make sure I can function as a person if I plan on taking care of my son, so unfortunately that means having to put the depression before breastfeeding... :(
