dilation checks they just stick their fingers in there and check your cervix for dilation, for a membrane sweep they do the same but move their fingers around and try to loosen the amniotic sac from the wall of your cervix, something that can start labor for some women.
stick a finger up there to see if any fingers can fit in your cervix. during a sweep, they insert a finger in and try to separate the bag from the placenta
