I'm completely stoked about all the moms messaging me asking for help and no judgment advice on getting help to quit smoking in their pregnancies! I just want to let y'all know, if you didn't see Preggie's post and you're seeing this, I can and will help you! for some of you who are currently speaking to me and don't know my story, I'll share here:
I found out I was pregnant on July 27th, 2015. at this point I was a 3 pack a day smoker and the intake was nearly back to back. the minute I saw two lines on my pregnancy test I was happy... and scared. I had just lit a cigarette and was smoking while waiting for those results. when they came up I still came running to Sebastian to show him where he cried with me bc we finally had a rainbow baby. then he looked at me and said "you have to work on your smoking.. you're carrying our baby in there" and I told him "yes. I know" i was 5 weeks at that point. I saw my ob for the first time when I was 9 weeks and 4 days. I moderately smoked like I normally would in between those weeks. when I met with Dr.Bendt he asked about my pregnancy history, as well as if I smoked. I told him I had 4 miscarriages no live births, and that I was a heavy smoker averaging at 3 packs a day. he looked up at me then down at the paper and asked me in how many years was it that my miscarriages happened. and I'd told him the majority of them had been in 2015. and he asked me "did you stop smoking everytime you found out you were pregnant? " and Id told him yes, cold turkey, bc my boyfriend would take my cigarettes and tell me it's a sign to quit. so that's when my Dr. gave us a talk. saying he doesn't want me to quit. he wants me to keep smoking. Sebastian asked why and he said this "with how much your girlfriend smokes in a day... the baby is already used to all that nicotine. it's small it's relying on that a little. stopping suddenly can and will result in withdrawl to not only her. but the baby. her quitting now would do more damage to the baby than smoking. so here's what I want you guys to so. keep a chart. next two weeks count how many cigarettes a day she smokes. from there on out. cut her off by 1-3 each week. make a number of how many she can smoke in a day. whatever it takes to get her to CUT DOWN. what this is gonna do is they'll both get the nicotine. but every week you're lightening how much by setting those numbers. sooner or later she's gonna only need half a cigarette. maybe not even one at all. she's gonna need support and motivation. and that's where you come in. you smoke too. be smart about it. when she can learn how to control her own intake. then you do what you would normally do." and we did just that. by the time I hit 5 months pregnant I was down to two packs. smoking an average of 10 cigarettes a week. by the time I hit 7 months. I was down to one pack a week. and that's when the hardcore changes came about. started off smoking maybe half the pack and saw how I needed to cut that down. along that's when 3 cigarettes a day came into play for the week. I'd get 3 a day and I'd have to sparingly decide when I could smoke those bc my pack would be hidden or taken. the next weeks to follow once it became regulated, it became 2 a week. by the time I hit 32 weeks.. I was down to half a cigarette in one week and sometimes I'd take a drag and not want anymore of it period and it'd be a freahly lit cigarette. the urge and the stress was winding down more and more the closer I saw I was getting to the end of this pregnancy. I knew I was motivating myself the right way. it may have taken 8 months to get where I was at
but I managed to beat nicotine addiction in a safe manner. here I am 38 weeks pregnant, and I don't smoke anymore. if I do, it's a tiny drag and the taste is enough to make me sick and vomit, that's enough of a reminder tonot touch anymore until my baby is born. yes along the way I've had to listen to people judge me, yell at me, get in my face about it and snatch cigarettes from me, one stranger Even took my pack and broke every single one in the pack. but these people didn't understand what I was doing or why. they didn't want to try and that's okay. because I knew what matters is that I know what I'm doing, my strongest support knew what I had to do, and I was motivated.
ladies you CAN quit even if it's late. the less you smoke at any point is better for the baby's lungs even after they're developed. if you smoke 10 a day, work on making it... 5 a day. guess what. that's 5 less cigarettes and a little better breathing for that baby without stressing yourself out as well. motivation is key, and sticking with it is what helped!
I only hope that the girls who read this who are struggling got a good idea of not being ashamed. I'm here for anyone who is struggling. I will not judge you. and I want to help you if quitting in your pregnancy is what you truly want!
do I plan on smoking again? yes. 6 months or so after I'm done doing half of my breast feeding plan I do plan on smoking in moderation. not around my son though. only outside of the house, outside the car, and so forth. just because I'll be in school. and I am that sort of person who smokes when they get stressed.
so ladies if you need help! message me! I'm always all ears. If I don't respond immediately. I always get back to a message as soon as my phone is in my hands!

Just because im curious and I quit cold turkey the moment I found out I was pregnant...
Why would you want to pick up the habit again? Wouldn't you just wanna stop since you've already quit?

@matthewsmom, I have my reasons. as to why is not something Preggie needs to know about. I'm glad you were able to quit smoking cold turkey the moment you found out you were expecting. you probably wasn't nearly half as bad as I was when I found out I was pregnant. as well as. just because I've quit does not mean Im not a wreck bc I can't smoke. because it's there. but I'm at the point where I don't need it bc I know it's best for the health of my son right now. which is what I had to work on this entire pregnancy

@xbbycolletto, well it's all good. I'm in graduate school so I understand it's hard to deal with the stress. I just feel so much better not smoking and it's good for everyone involved including my wallet lol my husband is a smoker (has been for 8 years) and we are working on getting him to stop because the risk of SIDS goes up with 2nd hand smoke exposure as well. I wish you luck! Maybe you will change your mind and decide to stay quit, ya never know!
