Feeling extremely discouraged about breastfeeding. I try so hard but my baby just doesn't even seem to be interested. He never wakes up to eat. I have to make him eat and he eats for 5-10 minutes and goes back to sleep. Every time I get him to latch, I sit there and pray he doesn't fall asleep or move away. I've had to resort to giving him some formula to make sure he's eating 😔😔 I feel like such a let down..
My little girl was like that...she slept a lot and I had to wake her and use a nipple sheild for her first 2 weeks! She eventually got it. Babies dont need to eat much longer than that in the beginning, your baby is less than a week, a few good pulls and their little tummy is full!
5-10mins is normal for a newborn your doing everything right. try waking ever hour or so Durning the day it will get better
@maybaby2016, @mycherrybaby @telliey @emkasting thank you ladies.. I feel better about him not wanting to eat. He just woke up and ate for 10 minutes then went right back to sleep.
no child is going to starve themselves so if he's falling asleep, no worries. he is just doing what is best for him. everyone is different.
I'm a breastfeeding mom if you ever have any other questions or wanna talk you can message me whenever I'm here for you . you can do this don't be upset
No nurse can tell you exactly what your child will do or how they will behave. Every child is different. Ask any mom with multiple kids. That's just a guideline they're forced to spew out to every new mom, that doesn't mean it's true for your baby @mommaheathco If you're worried about your supply, try pumping after he's finished feeding, that way you'll have back up milk when his appetite picks up. And #FunFact most babies lose weight after birth. It's normal. Don't stress yourself out. You got this
@mommaheathco, if it eases your mind a bit I do know that it is common and completely normal for babies to lose some of their birth weight after being born. If you're super concerned and desperately need peace of mind I would give your doctor a call but it doesn't sound like the weight loss should be too much to worry yourself to death about right this second, if it continues beyond a couple more weeks then I would be a bit more concerned but I'm no doctor so just call yours on Monday if you can wait that long! It'll be okay love
all babies lose a little weight right after birth . he will gain it back within the next two weeks. don't beat yourself up . yur doing great. as long as you continue to wake him to eat and offer the breast things will get better . trust yourself and your baby . and if he's latching on that's great newborns usually nurse very frequently but for a short time .
All of that is normal in the beginning. If he's refusing the nipple that's a different story, but when he's hungry he'll eat.
But don't be discouraged! You are NOT a let down! Not even a little bit! Having to supplement formula to make sure babe is getting enough nutrition is GOOD parenting mama. You're doing your absolute best. I'm not due until May and I'm so scared about breast feeding and all the challenges I could face but in your case if baby is crying out with hunger it sounds like he may be getting enough :) try not to worry so much it will be okay! If you're worried maybe contact a lactation consultant
I've done everything. I've tried undressing him, putting a cold cloth on him, diaper change, tickling his feet, etc. even if he does wake up, he's right back to sleep. And the nurses at the hospital told me that he has to nurse for 30 minutes on each side every time he eats or else he isn't getting what he's supposed to get from the milk @emkasting @cameale81 @kksmommy12 I'm trying my best to keep at it but it's so depressing. I cry because he's so tiny and he's lost almost a pound since he was born.
yeah like @emkasting said. you have to try to keep baby slightly awake so that he remembers to continue sucking when on the breast. when I was in the hospital the nurse said if baby falls asleep blow in her face . it worked for us
how many wet diapers is he having a day? maybe the 5-10 min is enough for him:) don't get discouraged momma! you got this!
New baby's normally don't eat much. Try rubbing his face or behind his ear to keep him awake. You will know if he isn't eating enough he would cry all the time instead of sleep. Have faith momma you got this.
@madelynnb, @tahtahme that makes me feel so much better! The people in the hospital said to feed him for an hour. That seemed a little too much for a newborn
