the first few months are back to back growth spurts. right now, he is building your supply & needs to be feeding on demand. you shouldn't be giving him bottles unless it's absolutely necessary. it's really rough at first. they don't tell you that your going to be living with a baby attached to your chest 24/7 for the first month or so. his behavior is normal though. if his output is good, then there is no reason to be giving him a bottle.

@rylansmomma he sounds like he's fine. don't worry if your boobs don't feel full. but call the lactation consultant and see what they have to say also. you can also try contacting LA Leche league and they can help too!

as long as you hear him swallowing he's actively drinking and getting milk. I did it for 14 months with my 1st and my boobs never once felt full or any different than they do now. as long as you hear him drinking and he's having plenty of wet and dirty diapers then he's fine. just cluster feeding.

I called a breastfeeding hotline and they didn't even call back lol. I might just set up a meeting with the lactation consultant from the hospital I delivered at. I think he may be cluster feeding, he's eating every 30 minutes and will stay on for a long time, and feel fine. 30 minutes later he'll be hungry again and crying.. And i feel like I'm not producing enough because I don't feel full. My breasts feel empty. But i can still hear him sucking and swallowing big gulps of milk. @nicemmcha2015 @rosalinasmami

@rylansmomma, yeah you can't go by how much you pump or how they feel. once it regulates they won't ever feel full but there is always milk there whether a little or alot. maybe you should talk to a lactation consultant.

don't worry just because you aren't pumping enough doesn't mean your out of milk. A baby's sucking is much stronger than a pump, and baby will get milk. continue to nurse on demand. as long as you hear him swallowing, then he most likely isn't using you as a pacifier. he could also be cluster feeding. he's still young and will need to nurse often.

I feel like I'm running out of milk from how much he's taking, plus my breasts feel empty and they were usually hard and full @nicemmcha2015

I do both as well, but I haven't been able to get any out from the pump, but I can hear him swallow my breast milk @kevanna

@rylansmomma, at a week old he's still building your supply and should he fed on demand. they don't need alot at once so they eat very often. if you don't let him nurse when he wants right now then later on you won't make enough milk. there is nothing wrong with what he's doing. he's doing what he's supposed to.

I started to pump more instead of having him latch on as often . Say for instance you said you baby eats every hour so I would breast feed him for that hour then if he wanted more the next hour I made sure I had some pumped for the next 2 or 3 feeds and jus do it in moderation and then he got use to it

He is starting to use your nipple as a pacifier that's why I had to break my first sons eating routine the doctor told me that he was starting to use my nipple as a comfort soothing accessory

He's a week old.. It seems he just can't seem to get enough.. And I don't feel like my breasts are full but he's getting milk from them

How old? could be cluster feeding/growth spurt. nursing alot does not mean low supply. breastfeeding is supply and demand. the more they nurse they more you make so it's a good thing!
