Just wondering how everyone went about the whooping cough vaccine, did you's ask close family to get it or everyone who is gonna meet baby? I'm a little concerned about it and don't wanna push people into getting, especially since it's only free to pregnant women, but I don't want to risk it... Help 😩

I'm in WA and had mine at my 28 week appointment, but he said it's not covered for my partner- only pregnant women. It's about $50-$60 here to get it and we have to find a doctor who can have them sent in, if not then we have to find a chemist that has it. I've asked my parents and parents in law, but I'm not sure if they will or not :/

i think it may be different from state to state but my husband and I got it for free (living in VIC). We have asked my husband's parents and sisters to get (believe it costs $40-but well worth it for our little girl not to contract it.) And my dad who is coming over seas. I've already got mine when I was 28 weeks pregnant and 1 month later I still have a bump, but it was worse when I first recieved it. It also takes 2 weeks to actually work, so when your baby gets it, two weeks after it should work.

In the end it's keeping Bub safe and that's what's most important to us so I'm gonna have to be harsh about it. Thank you ladies for your help!

@carlyanaya, try your midwifes about getting it done for hubby. I got mine done through the hospital, they keep a supply of government paid ones for expectant mothers & such,

I explained to them that we were in the exact situation about the GP and pharmacy not having any of the boostrix shot, and at my appointment the child health nurse has organised the adacyl (same needle just government brand one) to be given to Jason at my next midwife appointment.

I had mine done but when we went to get my hubbies the pharmacies in cairns were out of stock! (They keep them available for pregnant women but don't give those ones to others) so my hubby didn't get his and we are still searching pharmacies. Looks like cairns doesn't get sent up supplies often. I didn't ask my mum to get it as she isn't keen on vaccinations and has had cancer so didn't want to put that on her but I was strict with who cuddles bubs for the first month. First 2 weeks was strictly close family, no kids. And everyone had to wash their hands first. But I still think it's really important to have the vaccination and most of my family are vaccinated

8 weeks old Hun, if friends really want to see Bub in hospital, they'll respect your wishes and get the immunisation. Anyone who will be around Bub should be getting it done.

Do you know when bubs first immunisations for that is? What about friends who really want to see Bub while in hospital? Should I ask them too?

I asked immediate family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles etc) that were/are going to be seeing Bub before first immunisations to get it done, if they don't want to, then as harsh as it sounds they will not be around Bub until she's atleast had her first vaccinations, I had my booster already around 28 weeks. The risk is too great for me, especially with the outbreaks appearing everywhere.
