Hoping someone can settle this for us. When I went into preterm labor, my midwife said she wanted me to try to wait until I was 36 weeks cuz that's full term. But if I wanna be able to do a water birth, I have to be at least 37 weeks. And now she's saying full term isn't until 38 weeks. Which is it? Not that it should matter cuz my baby boy is gonna come when he's ready, but it would be nice to get a straight answer!

The term "full term" would be considered the 40weeks of gestation. At 37-38 weeks your child's lungs are fully developed so they can breathe on their own. Anything before that and they would end up in the NICU because their lungs are not ready yet. This is information from my brother who's a nurse and he just did his rotation in the maternity ward.

Technically, full term is 40 weeks. You want baby in there as long as possible.
They changed it to 38 weeks I think. I know back in 2006 when I had my son full term was 36 weeks
someone told me 36 weeks is full term ! Is that true ? if so A'Shante has 3 weeks until I evict her 😂

Are doctors really still telling people that 37-38 weeks is full term???? ACOG and SMFM both define full term as 39-40 weeks. 37-38 is term. 41-32 is late term. Babies born at 37+ weeks are almost always just fine but there are clearly researched benefits to going to 39-40.

It's strange to think I'm 26 weeks... I had my first at 33 weeks... so 7 weeks from now... only 14 weeks until I'm full term! My goal is to make it until at least my daughters birthday... I'll be 36 weeks at that point!
