Today marks the second-ever World Birth Defects Day.
Globally, 1 in 33 babies are born with birth defects -- and it's estimated that 276,000 infants die within the first month of life because of them. Birth defects can be a result of genetics, infections, nutrition or environmental factors. They can include conditions like heart defects, neural tube defects and Down syndrome, just to name a few.

This is so depressing to read 😢 lets just stay positive over here... The truth is most of us are already terrified something with happen and with stats like that only makes us worry even more

it's just truth and fact. it's not their to scare people, it's there for families who are already affected. no one should feel scared to talk about their child's condition(s) because it might scare another mom..... it's like a mom being told not to talk about her stillborn baby because it's scary. these things happen in the world, and people who are affected need support by both people who can relate AND can't.

@myliltadpole1116, I think most people who see "trigger warning " or "do not read" still read out of curiosity... most, probably not all.

As I was reading my heart flopped over. I'm so thankful for my healthy pregnancy so far, but I know many women aren't as lucky. The least we can do is appreciate their struggle. So here's to all the strong mommies out there!
