it depends on the type and how much mercury is in it but if your doctor said no listen to him.

Okay your doctor is crazy.. there is seafood you can eat while pregnant fish is a very important part of your diet adding omegas for baby's growing brain. there are fishes you can have because they have murcury and nothing raw but I eat Alaskan pollic, salmon, he'll I've even had crawfish and shrimp and calamari... fish/seafood isn't a no go during pregnancy just like sandwich meats are also okay, because if they where worried about listeria in sandwich meats you shouldn't be able to eat yogurt, ice cream, or fruits.

My dr told me that I could eat shrimp since I only get it once in awhile. Said sea food depends on amount and how often you eat it.

I never heard that. I love seafood. I'd demand a second opinion on that one lol

Maybe ask your doctor to specify why it's unhealthy & if there's anything specific, like (the obvious) sushi, that you should stay away from (since that's raw fish). But seafood contains DHA which is extremely good for eye & brain development in babies still in gestation. I eat sea food once in a while, but I never eat fish. I always choose shrimp or a few bites of crab. I haven't had any problems, & I've been told eating common allergen foods (not sure I said that right) such as dairy, nuts, sea food, & so forth can help your child have a better chance of not being allergic to them.

It's possible and every doctor and person are different. And every situation. I just know I don't get it but like once every three months and when I asked him because I was on tears of wanting to eat it he said go for it. but don't go crazy.

Yea I'm going to ask because I thought things of that nature were healthy

But I also know that some things, like dyeing your hair, should wait until at least the 2nd trimester, so eating sea food might be one of those things? If that makes sense haha.

Lol that's what I was thinking but I also remember they said eating tuna was not good either.

@hale16, it dosnt matter as long as it's not high in murcury and it's cooked your fine. I don't know any doctor that would say absolutely no fish.. now tuna is something to make sure you limit and only eat light tuna because that can have murcury but most other fish that have murcury are deep sea fish, shark, that kinda thing.. your diet being of great variety and healthy is most important during the fist months, I'm not saying that it's not important the whole time but those beginning months you are actually building a human having DHA and omegas is extremely important for brain and spinal cord formation

Ok when we make fish at home it's baked or broiled I think that should be fine right? @aphrodite2014

@hale16, yes the only thing you want to watch for is murcury content. that can't nessissarily be cooked out. but most fish you get at the grocery store dosnt have it just Google the type of fish before you buy it

What about fish from fast foods? @aphrodite2014

@hale16, they are usually fine also just ask what kind of fish they use if they don't know you can usually Google it, but at long as it's nothing exotic you should be fine with cooked fish
