So a very close friend of mine was caught with a half ounce of marijuana and now has a court date to see if he's getting a fine or jail time. This is his first offense, will he just get a fine? Especially when he has a family and a job. He won't get to see his daughter be born if he gets the time. If anyone knows, please fill me in. I live in Illinois

Yeah my brother was arrested for this too and he just got a fine and had to take online drug addiction classes, I'm sure everything will be fine
not sure about your state but all the states I've lived in if it's under an ounce he would get a fine and possibly community service
And whatever he gets is what he gets, people got to learn somewhere.
If he gets jail time it won't be more then 30 days usually. Chances are if he has a clean record and this is his first offense, they'll do a fine and have him do drug classes or something similar from what I've learned in my crim classes. It also depends on his attorney too but a lot of times it's not hard to cut a deal since it was marajuana not something like heroine or meth that would be taken more seriously.
It depends on who the judge is and their mood... if they're in a good mood, hope and pray that no one pisses them off before he's seen.

My brother in law Jst went through this they only made him attend some drug classes and he had a fine no jail time ... But it depends on the attorney he has
yeah more than. likely a fine. maybe classes. duis these days even just get a fine
Usually for your first offense you get between 15-30 days in jail, a fine and probation. I used to live in IN.
