if you think baby will sleep another couple hours you could always pump, or just pump enuf to take the pressure off

I'd hand express a little to relieve a little bit of the pressure.

if baby is back to birth weight I would not wake him up. hand expressing wint cause your body to think you need to make more milk, while your supply is regulating itself

I was told, and learned in prenatal classes, to never let a newborn sleep more than two hours. even if that means waking them up to feed them and putting them back to sleep

@smalltownmama, you can ask your Dr about waking the baby to eat, some recommend it and others dont

Unless your baby is not gaining weight as they should, I wouldn't wake them. My daughter would go 4 to 5 hours between some feeds(not all, but some) and she has remained in the 80th percentile since birth.

@sarahdrew, @unbecomingme he weighed 8 pounds and 5 ounces today and is doing perfect growth wise FINALLY! It was unnerving the first 2 weeks :(

They always go down right after birth. But I'm glad to hear he's doing great!! :)

I hear you @smalltownmama my milk was delayed and my daughter lost a pound in the hospital... but within 2 weeks she went from 6 pounds 4 ounces to 8 pounds 1 ounce and is now 12 pounds 11.6 ounces at 4 months.... it's all about getting that milk regulated

he lost a pound at the hospital and a few ounces at home and it's been worrisome just to get him back to his birth weight!
