ladies my 2 week old always seems hungry! I thought it was the breastmilk at first but i finally gave him formula and He literally just had 2 oz of formula about an hour ago and now is crying and is looking for the bottle again!! Is this normal?
@hellosweetie, @saydeighsmom @isabellasmommy4 thank you ladies. I feel so much better
Feed at the breast on demand or else you'll have a hard time regulating your flow and his eating pattern. They cluster feed when they need to tell your body to up the production. With my daughter sometimes it would feel like every hour she was feeding for the first whole year lol. They go through spurts.
My daughter at birth to 4 months had 4 oz ever 2 hours and she is now 4 years old weighing 65 pounds lol to me I don't see nothing wrong with it but try 2oz every 2 hours or the 3 oz every hour & 1/2
Oh, I misunderstood, thought you were worried about supply! You can always try pumping, although I wouldn't blame you if you don't want to bother as it's hard to keep up with that at work and keep your supply good....formula fed babies can cluster feed too, so I still wouldn't worry too much, the point is if he's hungry, feed him! You don't need to tell the pediatrician how often he eats and how much, just write down what he wants you to do...his normal growth patterns will speak for themselves! There's no such thing as an obese baby, to a certain extent of course, and every baby is different with how much they need to eat!
@saydeighsmom, you mean 4 oz? every 2 hours? he's saying every hour and a half right now
@hellosweetie, thanks hun. I just want to get him used to having formula when I go back to work. and today I was trying the formula and it just seemed like he was never getting full lol
That's weird but every pediatrician is different ! It's normal yes but try giving it like every 2 hours and see how that works
@saydeighsmom, I would love to feed my baby as much as he asks for but his pediatrician already yelled at me for giving me 2.5 oz of formula in the first week so I'm scared
I would just stick to giving him the breast, what he's doing is called cluster feeding and it's completely normal and does not mean your supply is low! Babies cluster feed a lot, especially in the early weeks, for many reasons! They do it for comfort, to establish your supply, to fill their tiny bellies (they have very small bellies and breast milk is digested quickly), and because they grow so rapidly in the first few months especially! Just take a deep breath, feed at one breast, let him unlatch on his own, then burp, change and offer the other breast. Next feed start with the last breast you used, and repeat. He may want to eat every hour FOR an hour, and it may seem like he's never full, but the only reliable way to tell if he's getting enough is to count his pees (should be about 5 or 6 a day), and also to make sure he's gaining weight at his appointments. Other than that, kick back and ride it out mama, it gets better I promise 😊
Anytime! Breastfeeding may be natural and normal but that doesn't mean it's not confusing AF or come with lots of questions lol.
