some of them have glitter and things that are rough in the yarn materials that would not necessarily make for a good blanket and its really all up to you just make sure when your looking at the yarn you inspect and make the judgment on which are safest most of the times the store clerk will have the better answers as to which exact one to get

@txkitten83, it really just depends on how you want your blanket whether you want it really really soft or not. I always get really thick yarn that's soft its easier to make a bigger blanket with

I use the metal hooks it took me about 3 big yarns to make a baby blanket

a blanket is easiest to start with it doesn't require a difficult pattern

Hobby lobby is the best place to buy your hook they have set of them. I prefer to use the metal hooks but it's all about your own comfort. I've Joann Fabrics to have the best selection of yarn. And you can use coupons too. I get most of my patterns from Pinterest. My first project was a blanket and I've increased my skill level with scarves.

It's pretty easy you can YouTube all the different stitches.
