I know this sounds bad but it worked. My nephew was in the hitting & biting phase around that age to . We would pop their butt or hand & say no firmly. If he bit we nipped his finger back never hard enough to cause pain but the thought of us doing it to him made him upset.

That is my next step. I'm not against a pop on the butt at all. I know they say don't fix hitting with hitting but I don't think she understands that it hurts. Thank you.

My boys were very stubborn and popping their butts didn't do any good. If that ends up the same case for you. time out works great for us. like in a play pen or their crib. they don't like being left in one spot for long. my boys stopped very quickly

Yea its crazy how all of a sudden popping the butt turns into child abuse. My son will get popped if he does what he knows it's wrong. But I would never BEAT my child. Theres a difference. I hope it works out for you!

Redirect. She's too young to be doing maliciously... She's just testing you for attention. Instead of telling her what she CANT do.. Redirect her to something she CAN do and explain to her that 'that's not nice, that hurts mommy, and when you hurt mommy it makes me sad. When you want mommys attention please do *this* instead. --- I'm pro spanking but I can assure you that hitting or spanking a ONE YEAR OLD will not work. You are punishing violence with violence and she's too young to understand why it's okay for YOU to hit, but not her.

she is to young for time out at this point I think. And I don't want her crib to become a "bad" place. I did redirecting for a while and when the doctor talked to me, she said it's pretty much like rewarding bad behavior. She literally will turn and open hand smack me in the face if she isn't getting her way. It's not like she is just throwing a tantrum and accidentally hits me.

I'm also concerned bc she has a baby brother coming in June and I would hate for her to ever hit him so young, she can smack hard as shit

I'd slap her back. She needs to learn that it HURTS. I mean don't beat her obviously, but it's mostly the shock value that works. I've been working in pediatrics a long time and sometimes will joke with the other nurses about how so and so needs a spanking haha

@taybeard, about the age of one and half my daughter was hitting and biting badly I always bite her back, but with the hitting my grandmother always told me to buy a wooden spoon and that's what I use I don't spank her hard with it of course but I do pop her with it and I still use it to this day not as much as I used to have to to bc I can pull it out and she will quit doing whatever she is doing. It works.
