what's the blood test that you get before 15 weeks to test gender and issues? pros and cons of it?

i had a quad scan at 12 weeks which came back saying i had a 1 in 82 risk of my little boy having downs, i went in for genetic testing at 13 weeks, not sure exactly what test, and a day before i was 15 weeks i got a call saying i was having a little boy and that he was perfectly healthy :)
