Breastfeeding tips

•It's recommended to breastfeed up to 1 yr.

•Don't introduce solids until baby is 6 months

•Don't use a breast pump until 3 weeks. Let your body get use to your baby and when he/she wants to eat. If you are going to use a breast pump double electric is best

•Remember babies cry because they're hungry, over stimulated, need a diaper change, or are just lonely (so there's nothing wrong with holding)

•Feeding should occur every 2-3 hours meaning you are feeding baby 8-12 times a day

•Try to remember which breast you fed with last to prevent engorging.

•Use first breast as the full course meal and the second breast as dessert. Remember to burp in between (this is where dad can come in and help)

•Be sure you are eating and staying hydrated. Breastfeeding takes a lot out of you

•If you hear any smacking during feelings, this means baby is not latched on correctly.

You will know when baby is done eating when their arm is relaxed. Notice how at the beginning of a feeding their arms are tensed.

•Use lanolin cream on your nipples. Just a dab of it is good. Don't smear on your areolas because it can clog your glands and reduce milk production.

•First time moms, babies usually feed only once during the first 24 hours of life. Be sure to do skin to skin for stimulation.

•Milk is good at room temperature for 5 hours. In the fridge for 5 days. And in the freezer for 5 months

•Milk from the freezer to fridge is good for 24 hours

•If using a bottle use a straight, slow flow, silicone nipple

•If you have milk in a bottle and the baby has drunk from it, the remaining milk is only good for an hour

•Going out for a drink and worried about feeding baby? Breastfeed then drink. Don't over do it!! This gives your body enough time to rid the alcohol before the next feeding

I loved this ! Thanks girl :) I'm just confused some say when breastfeeding burping isn't necessary only when bottle fed because they can get air from the bottle.

No problem @noemiix33 I'm glad I can share what I've learned. Burping is necessary for both. I work at a hospital on the mother baby unit and i see breastfed babies burp more than bottle fed babies
