Tell her to take one and if it comes out positive, call her ob. It could be a miscarriage because of the cramps and bright red blood or it could just be an early period. Sometimes it's normal during a pregnancy to have bleeding but it's usually not unless there's something causing it.

Some women have their periods throughout the entire pregnancy. It's not super common but it definitely happens.
