I'm sure it's ok to take tums but for your first trimester I would ask your doctor's other ways to make the heartburn go away for as long as you're in you're your first trimester. I know sipping on a really cold glass of milk and sitting up helps me a lot and I have insane acid reflux.

Try drinking some milk or eating vanilla ice cream. If that doesn't work then I'd try tums if your doc says it's okay for your first trimester.
