That's about perfect. The "rule" is 1-1.25oz per hour and it stays the same until a year old because breastmilk changes over time unlike formula. To increase supply I'd make sure you're pumping until empty every 2 hours with maybe one 4 hour stretch at night. You can also throw in a power pumping session during the day if you want.
@mirandag, she eats around 2 to 2 1/2 ounces every 2 to 3 hours sometime she will eat more
Pumping often is the only way to increase supply. How much is she eating and how often? Unfortunately many doctors aren't educated about breastfeeding and will recommend the amount formula fed babies usually eat.
Her doctor knows how much she's eating and says it's fine.. She lost a whole pound after birth and we have to get it back up... And all today today when I pump I'm only getting an ounce if I'm lucky so 1/2 ounce from each side... My supply is definitely low. On Wednesday when she was born I pumped for her and got 35 ml my first time pumping...
If you're exclusively pumping make sure you pump every 2 hours during the clock and that she's pace fed her bottles. She only needs 24-32oz per 24 hours.
@mirandag, I know it's low bc she was born really quick, I almost had to have a c section and she had fluid in her stomach so she felt too full to eat the first day and I was already producing what they call "transitional milk" so the lactaction nurse gave me a pump and told me to pump, we tried to get her to latch but she couldn't.. My nipples are really flat, and she wouldn't use the shield at first.. I can get her to latch every now and then but I've been pumping and bottle feeding it to her.. The first 6 days I was pumping anywhere between 4-6 oz off each breast every couple hours and now I only get maybe 2 ounces... She has latched on a few times time night and today but I can't pump anything and my supply is getting low... And now I don't have any milk on hand except 25 oz in the freezer that I'll have to start using
Also, make sure you're not pumping until 6 weeks or it could cause issues with the amount of fat in your milk. Just nurse baby on demand. (:
Why do you think your supply is low? As long as baby is making diaper counts then you have plenty of milk.
@mirandag, ok thank you!
