I mean it's your decision but what if he leaves?? You don't want him claiming the baby. Sorry I just know from experience and I want too save as many people as I can
well if it's his kid and you plan on being with him then let your child have that last name. I wish I did with my daughter but now that I'm married to her dad I have to go through the process of getting her last name changed and I need a court approval for it.
And just in case something nasty happens between you guys, not speaking any bad on you, the fact your daughter has his last name can work against you in a custody battle.
Just make sure you're relationship is written in stone with this guy, at least be engaged. If not then you can always go through the court and get it changed later. Up to you.
my child doesn't have his father's last name and I'm glad I decided to give him my last name...no part time dad deserves that right (in my opinion) I'm now married to who has helped me raise my son since he was 2 months old and my name is hyphenated
I agree @gcpaschal .......If you are willing to have his child then I don't see why you won't give the child his last name. Its ok for the baby to have half his genes but not his name?
I'm giving my son his fathers full name. I wanted to hyphenate the last name but then he would be a "Jr". We plan on being together so I really don't mind and whatever happens in the future I'll just have to deal with it
I have my dads last name and did before my parents were married, my fiancé has his fathers last name and his parents were never together and my daughter has her dads last name and we're not married so it's not just for married people. If he's in that babies life that's his kid and he deserves to let that be known, hyphenate it whatever but I believe that child should have it.
It's no law you can name baby whatever you want married or not. But I personally feel the baby gets father name due to lineage. If you're married or not that's the baby's father. And if you do give baby your name and then have to go through the process of changing to hubby name that'll be a waster of money. And for the record the baby name plays no part in custody. My kids father isn't in their lives and part of me wish that I didn't give them his name. And would LOVE to give them my husband name. But at the end of the day that's still their blood line nothing I can do to erase that. Think long and hard mama. I'm sure you'll make the best decision for you and baby.

if you don't give it to him, he can go to court and at least have it hyphenated.
