Baby girl went to the doctor again today and she lost 2 more ounces since Saturday.. It breaks my heart.. She eats a lot but also spits up a lot.. The doctor wants to see her again tmrw and we are going to put rice in with my breastmilk to make it heavier on her stomach and increase her calorie intake.. Also going to try some pedialyte (probably spelled wrong) to see if her stomach can tolorate it.. I'm hoping this helps her.. She's so small. But the doctor said everything else looks perfect. She has plenty of wet and dirty diapers through the day and her poop is yellowish now so we know that she is getting something from the breastmilk we just need to raise her weight up... Has anyone else ever been through this??? I feel horrible
you are welcome @wrd2016 I'm going to keep your little one in my prayers that she starts striving
@kmally, I have tried other things over the last couple days and it hasn't helped so I'm hoping this does. I trust this doctor, my sister used him for all 3 of her kids and still does today so I'm gonna give it a try. Thank you! @sarahdrew yeah that's what hurts me is that I was so worried I wouldn't produce enough to feed her and now that she is here I have a lot of milk and she's eating but she can't keep all of it down.. It breaks my heart to see her dropping weight when I just want to help her strive and be healthy.. Im glad your little one got better and everything is working out. Thank you!
it definitely happens.... my poor little girl lost a whole pound before she left the hospital (my milk was delayed due to c-section) I felt like it was my fault and that I wasn't going to be able to feed her like I wanted.... but we got on the right track (I even found out I can't eat onion) and have been going strong for 4 months now..... don't give up, just do as doctor suggests and it should all work out
Definitely try what her doctor is recommending. Just offering some other things that worked for my little guy. Best of luck never easy seeing our babes struggle ❤️
Thank you! @sarahdrew I'm really upset about it.. I feel like it's my fault.. But my doctor told me these things just happen..
@kmally, @brebaby914 @sarahdrew we have tried everything to keep her from spitting up.. She eats fine, hungry every 2 or 3 hours but 8 out 10 times she spits up sometimes a little some times a lot. She was 6 lb 6 oz when she was born on Wednesday by Friday when we left she was 5 lb 12 oz Saturday she was 5 lbs 5 oz and now 2 days later she is 5 lbs 2 oz.. Idk what else to do and her pediatrician told me to give her a tsp of rice in a 2 oz bottle it's not super thick but he thinks it will give her food some weight so she doesn't spit it up right away and give her some calories.. I'm not a doctor.. I'm not gonna tell him that I'm not going to try it.. She can't keep losing weight.. So if this will help her then I'm willing to try it.. We go back to the doctor tmrw.. So I'll see what he says then
my daughter lost too much weight before leaving the hospital, my Dr had me cup feed my daughter a little formula (she is breastfed) to help her gain weight... she went from 6 pounds 3.8 ounces to 8 pounds 1 ounce in about 10 days or so.... like @brebaby914 said, try eliminating things that could be upsetting her tummy... I wouldn't do cereal quite yet since she is so young their bellys can't digest it (Dr should know this)... also my lactation consultant told me to nurse every 1 1/2 -2 hours that first week or 2 to get her to gain
How old is she? With breastfed babies it's not abnormal for them to take about 2 weeks to be back up to birth weight. Rice in the bottle is really old school and I'd probably seek a second opinion. Just saying this bc we went through something similar with my daughter and no new baby should be given any type of solid added unless it's the last option.
I agree with @Brebaby914 I had to cut out all dairy, caffeine and leafy greens because they caused major reflux for my guy. Took about two weeks to get it out of my system but then he was a completely different baby. He was gaining weight, stopped spitting up/projectile vomiting, slept better, etc.
@brebaby914, I'm bottle feeding after I pump, she's not latching well. & her pediatrician told me to put rice in her milk so that's why I'm doing it. She weighed 6lbs 6oz when she was born on Wednesday today she weighed 5 lbs 2.6 oz.. So we have to get her weight up.. I've stopped eating spicy foods and I haven't really drank any dairy since having her.. So I'm just gonna do what the doc said and see if it helps
Are you bottle feeding or from the breast? If you are feeding from the breast you should have a lactation consultant weight baby before and after nursing. I also wouldn't advise adding cereal to the bottle unless last resort. Have you eliminated anything from your diet that may be upsetting baby's tummy? Dairy is a very common one and it could take about 2 weeks to get out of your system.
you are very welcome 🙏💟
