🚨🚨🚨Ok mamas!! 🚨🚨🚨 sorry for the long post but i need yalls opinions bad please!!! 😫 FTM here! I just had my daughter on Wednesday 2/10/16 and I've been pumping bc she's had a hard time latching on sometimes bc my nipples are on the flat side so the hospital encouraged me to pump and still attach her when we could.. Well tonight is our first night home and my breasts got really hard and sore, so assuming they were engorged with milk, bc they were rock hard, I helped my girl latch perfectly and she nursed for about 15 mins on both sides put together.. That didn't help I still felt really full so I hooked up to the pump and got 2 OZ from each side in maybe 10 minutes and my boobs are still hard as a rock and feel full although I did get a little relief from pumping.. So my questions for you BF mamas are: 1) what can I do to keep my breast from getting this hard? & 2) I can't tell if this is my actual milk or if this is still transition milk? My doctor told me that I most likely leaked my colostrum out during pregnancy bc I have pumped a lot for only being 3 days post delivery... Now that I'm done pumping my boobs have gone back to the same hardness they were before I pumped... Please help me out ladies. I'm so lost on all this..

From my experience, the first few days pump all you can! My milk supply always diminished after my babies were a week old. Many things contribute to your milk supply going down like bad latching and lazy sucking. I pumped a ton the first two weeks to a month to establish a good supply. Once I had a good supply it would keep up with the baby. The engorgement is horrible but you will get through it!

@caseclosed2015, @alainalovesmommy @maizie00 I knew it wasn't colostrum the doctor told me that it's most likely what they call transitional milk that comes at the beginning of your real supply.. I pumped again after I got what's in the picture like an hour or so later and it took less than 10 mins to get another 2 oz from each side.. I'm already engorged again but I'm not gonna pump I'm gonna sleep while I can we have to be to the doctor at 8:45 so that should be fun lol I don't mind the supply though bc I would like to freeze some but it's just a lot to handle and get used to when it's our first night home and I'm up alone.. I am having to pump bc she's not latching properly and I'm producing so much, she latched earlier but it's easier to pump and bottle feed in the night so I just did that. I'm overwhelmed but I can't let her feel that bc it will make her feel the same.. She finally went back to sleep after eating and then filling up her diaper, throwing a fit bc I had to change her, spitting up all over and then pooping a little more as I'm changing her 😩 lmao I feel like I handled it well for doing it alone. Thanks for the advice ladies.. Gotta keep pushing 😊

The more you pump and feed the more your boobs will think they need to produce . I say let them be hard even though it might be irritating untill baby needs to feed and pump out the excess after baby is done , that's what I've been doing and it's kept my boobs from getting hard and staying that way . Goodluck momma ! And that looks like milk to me

I'm gonna take a guess and say that your milk came in and that's probably not colostrum. For me the first few days when my milk came in was my time and to pump and build a stash. There is so much there I just couldnt help not pumping it. So I would pump after each feeding to empty my breast and freeze it. Eventually your supply will level out and you wont get engorged as much, only if baby skips a feeding.
