Going to try solids again today. He's had his bottles thickens since 2 months because of silent reflux with rice but I want to transition to oatmeal because rice has no nutritional value. I'm worried because my son hasn't been drinking much since the end of four months and beginning of 5 months. Just hit 5 months last week so I have tried it a few times. It's normal for babies to spit out the food it's a natural reflex just have to keep trying. I plan on making all his food homemade. No jar food for my son. I just hope he'll eat more because the bottles he just plays with the nipple now. Anyone having the same issue at 5 months?

Actually if he's still got that tongue reflex, it's a sign that he's not quite ready to start eating solids, you may wanna try again next week until the reflex subsides...not saying don't thicken his bottles, if it helps his reflux you know what you're doing but baby foods may be too much for his digestive system if he's still got the tongue reflex.

Oh, and between 4 and 5 months they hit this weird stage where they don't eat as much and have a sleep regression, at least my girl did....she went back to normal pretty quickly though 😜

He hasn't. He still wakes in the nighttime and his naps are still 30 min where as they were long before. He takes a good one in the afternoon but that's the only one.

I'm just going off current research by the world health organization, before 6 months they're generally not ready for solids because their digestive system is not mature yet, signs that they're ready include being able to sit up, loss of tongue reflex, interest in food, being able to grab and bring things to their mouth...they have a tongue reflex for a reason, it helps them not choke, when they are ready to eat solid food they lose the reflex because they are more able to not choke on their food. It's your decision I'm just trying to give information from current research, some doctors are very old fashioned and back in the day they didn't think it was a big deal but for some babies it can be.

My mother in law is a pediatrician and said to wait. I'm just worried he's not getting enough because his appetite is not what it used to be. @hellosweetie does your baby grab for things ?

Omg yes, she grabs EVERYTHING within reach lol it's getting quite difficult! We still don't give her solids a lot, only some tastes cuz she hasn't really figured out that food is to eat, unless she sees that spoon, then her mouth opens wide for that lol her tongue reflex is gone, but yea mostly we give her stuff like once a week or so....is he breastfed or formula? Usually the general rule is as long as he's peeing enough and gaining weight, he's getting enough 😊 besides, even when solids are introduced there's no real nutritional value yet, their main source is breast milk or formula for the first year then they start eating solids more and slowly wean off of the milk 😜
