I think crib bumpers are necessary, but use the breathable kind for sure just because. There were so many times my daughters leg got caught in between the bars because someone told me not to get any bumpers.
I was told it was better to have them because if you don't they can roll over and hit their head on the crib or get their leg stuck in it. I don't know for sure that's just what I was advised to do but you can get a small mattress thing to put in the crib that makes it so they can't roll over
also the American Academy of Pediatrics says that bumpers show no potential risk as long as they are not pillow like
my boys have them and it does not cause sids. if your baby doesn't turn their head cuz they realize they can't breathe (fight or flight response) then you baby suffocates. so the cause of death wouldn't be sids it would be suffocation. but I digress. my boys have bumpers and are almost 6 months old and are fine with the bumpers.
Imagine you are sleeping and you roll over and your face is smushed against a thick comforter and you can't roll over or get out of it... That's just one of the things that could happen
I'm getting a breathable kind and tying it tight plus I will have one of those alarms that you put on the baby feet
Because baby could roll and their face can get stuck and they could suffocate. I would get a mesh one if you get one at all.
baby could roll and get caught with their face pressed against it and suffocate
appearently if the baby gets them off they can suffocate ... i just tie mine really tight..
@mamamo, I've had that happen when I took my bumpers off, my boys had arms and legs stuck between the 2 crib going thru his into his brothers and couldn't get it out, they've had bumps on their heads so I put them back on
