I have a 7 yr old boy in second grade who is having trouble staying focused. He's in the 99%tile in his grade and is bored so he talks or does things that get him into trouble. They use a color clip system that starts at green and he almost always comes home with an orange which is one clip down. Has anyone else dealt with this with their child and what did you do that actually worked. Nothing I do to discipline him for a bad color at home helps.
we didn't fully ignore our son's bad behavior because we wanted him to know boredom isn't a reason to behave badly but we tried focusing more on the positive.
That sounds like a good idea...should I just ignore the bad colors or still take things away? @jaeparm ...gifted classes don't start until third grade
Ask his teacher if he could hold a rock and keep it in his pants pocket, so he will have something to fidget with! I teach 6 year olds
our son is the same. he was so bored the first half of the year he acted out but now that they've started introducing more advanced concepts he's doing much better! I would maybe try doing a reward system, each day he gets a green clip he gets a sticker and then after so many stickers he gets a big reward like a toy or a special day trip with you of his choice. also see if his school offers classes for advanced kids.
this is how my brother was... sounds like he is too advanced for that class!! my brother could have jumped two grades but my parents didn't have the money to do what was necessary... :/ maybe try talking to the teacher and see if there is something they think might help?
yeah same thing happened to my baby sister and once she hit 3rd grade they had to put her in gifted classes because she got so bored and the work was to easy for her
