Does anyone know the reasons you wouldn't be able to give birth in a midwife led unit and would have to give birth in a Labour ward? :)

this is the room I gave birth in chick! dimmed lighting and the pool had mood lighting I'm the bed was so soft and amazing 😂 and mlu your partner can normally stay over too and you'll be kept there if you give birth there so you won't have to go to a noise ward, you may end up wanted more pain relief I did but I couldn't deal with not being on MLU so I went without anything so when you're thinking you can't cope no more just wonder where you'd rather be medical delivery suit and noisy ward or relaxing calm mlu with a separate room to sleep in with a TV you don't have to pay for 😂 also my mlu night Room had a wooden crib and changing unit much better than them plastic tub things buuut my hospital don't put a hat on or give you a cellular blanket while there so check where they do I took them anyway xx

the main difference is that on the labour ward you have the actual doctors. in the birthing centre it is led by midwifes. if your labour needs a bit more help you will go labour ward for yours and baby safety. hope you can go birthing centre :) xx

you can book but I didn't I was just taken straight there as I wasn't high risk I didn't have the choice although I did one to be on MLU aw chick they're lovely!! it was so so nice no medical at all plus all medical stuff is hidden in cupboards too! I think it's just if there is a risk to you or baby I was almost high risk at she was 10 days late so there was a chance she'd pooped but she hadn't plus they wouldn't of had time to transfer me of she had as she was born within 7 minutes of my water breaking it's best to Google your hospitals MLU and it should day on there xx

If they haven't told you your high risk then its more than likely that your not. I had to book my tour in with my hospital, but not till i was about 36 weeks, ask your midwife next time you see her @mangos94 xx

do they offer you tours or do you have to book them yourself? :D @emmy_lou
That's exactly why I want to do MLU @lottiesmam it seems so nice and calm and relaxing! less formal too which is something I'd prefer :D what do they constitute to be high risk then? because I haven't been told that I am but best to be prepared in case they say no! Haha xxx

if you are high risk and of you want more pain relief than gas and air and pethidine I gave birth on MLU and had nothing because the surrounding was so relax!xx
Emma·
If you get the chance to go on a labour ward tour, do it! It's brilliant, and they will answer any questions you've got, no matter how silly @mangos94 xx

Okay thank you :D @emmy_lou xx

If you are classed as a high risk pregnancy, you have to be induced, if baby needs constant monitoring and if you have certain pain reliefs or if you are consultant led. They are the reasons I've been told @mangos94 xx
