I'm just curious before I tell my boss. but how exactly does maternity leave work, like.. do I get a note from my doctor saying I'm required too leave on this date, and show my boss and she gives me an estimated date of when I will be back too work? or do I tell my HR?

Talk to HR directly, you're eligible for FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) if you're full time and have worked for 1 year and a certain amount of hours and CA actually has extended maternity leave you can take in addition if you want. HR should help you navigate through it all

yupp go to hr. if you dont qualify for FMLA, they don't have to give you the time off. a coworker of mine is losing her job because she didn't work enough hours. she can reapply and try for her job again when she's ready to start working again. :/

it has to be more than a year, and more than 1,250 hours in the last 12 months as well. just a heads up :)

@mylittleprincess, is right.. 1250 hours a year is about 25 hrs a week so not necessarily full time

yupp, it's right about 26 hours a week , some companies are more lenient than others on how long you can take off and such. just make sure hr is communicating with you and you get copies of the forms you have go fill out :0

It depends on your job. My offers maternity leave but they don't pay for part-time employees so I will be without pay for 3 months. You should ask HR so know what to expect for your maternity leave. You get a note if your doctor was to take you off before your due date. And after you have the baby. I am working until I deliver.
