It's to protect you and baby in case baby has a different blood type then you. I believe you only need it you're a negative blood type. @peanut_baby

@mommacee2be, RH- blood type. They would have told you by now. When they first draw blood they check for it

I'm b negative and got a shot when they found out I was pregnant and I have to get another at 28 weeks

Yes if mother is negative blood type her body does not know the rh factor which in turn, the first baby would potentially be fine but if she does not get that shot during or right after the first pregnancy, any potential future pregnancies her body's antibodies would attack the fetus if it has the rh factor ( positive blood type ) and it would abort the fetus. I am B+ so my body knows the rh so i personally don't need the rhogam shot
