Also try to limit bananas and any other heavy binding foods like oatmeals etc go away from the brat diet stuff. My daughter had issues when I switched her from formula to cows milk. Cows milk completely stopped her up and soy etc gave her diarrhea. So I had to give her half soy half cows milk until her body adjusted.

Give him baby food prunes, apple juice or sauce those will soften his bowel and make it easier. You can give him gripe water to soothe his stomach. Cvs has these little cylinder type wax almost a suppository with my daughter it didn't soften but whatever was in them made her poop it all out within minutes every time. They are in the children's medication section at Cvs.
