Last night I went to a childbirth options class put on by a doula. I have researched a lot of things that I want to do during my labor/birth with my ob at a hospital. But one thing was mentioned last night and I want to know if anyone else had this issue with their baby boy who was circumcised right after birth. I have a almost 7 year old son but I was 20 at the time, young and not so smart about mothering and at a military hospital and had a traumatic labor and delivery to say the least. Anyway, the doula said to postpone the circumcision for a week until the baby has learned to latch on and your milk has come in because the pain from the surgery can cause the baby to shut down and not want to nurse. My son never latched on and so I pumped but had to stop a week later due to high blood pressure and a risk of strokes. I am going to ask my pediatrician about it but I want personal opinions or actual stories. I read about it last night, and I know what research says but I want personal stories. Thanks ladies!

tbh it doesn't matter if ur baby gets it done right after hes born or a week later babies will learn to latch on with the proper help once they learn to latch on everything will be fine
@swtlilangl, I never thought about waiting because no one ever tells you about the pain. I wanted to cry when she told me because I already did it to my oldest and I can't imagine the pain!!! My husband said the benefits of having it done are more better than not which I totally agree but it's hard to tell a mother the amount of pain she is putting her newborn through when she's already emotional
Makes sense...circumcision comes from the bible and in the Jewish faith they wait so many days too because that's what they were told
