Uh oh! Help Mommys!!!!
Baby Girl is 6 weeks tomorrow. She's been on a new formula as directed by peds. They said to put her on it for a week and yesterday was a week and it seemed to help a lot (Enfamil Gentlease). But late last night/early this morning she struggled to poop for the 1st time ever. It came out soft just paste like. Every time since birth she's been semi watery with some texture. Does this mean she's going to become constipated or am I over thinking this? I gave her a massage and it calmed her once she passed her poop but right before was just horrible for her. Is there anything I can do or is it the formula?
*and yes I KNOW,"breast is best"🙄 if I could i would, and I tried but can't so please save me the lecture. Thanks*
she's doing good! I had her on the Gerber gentle ease because that's what she had in the nicu when I didn't bf or they were supplementing her. but she'd poop one day then be backed up for like 3. and the older and got, she started puking/spitting up more than usual. now on soy its a bit pasty and the most she won't go is a day. so I just give her warm juice and do belly and leg exercises work her lol @jgled000
@jgled000, that is the best way to describe Kamilla's poop this morning too! It was exactly like that and green. She's always only pooped maybe 1-2 times a day but I was told it was normal. I just don't want it to hurt her. I was also wondering if it had anything to do with the water I'm mixing it with. When I bought baby water from heb her mixed formula had no bubbles but it said the water had fluoride so I bought baby water instead from Walmart and that one said no fluoride with added minerals. And I noticed that when I mix formula with that there's a ton of bubbles. Ugh there's just so much to consider, it's a bit overwhelming and all I want is for her to just be comfortable.
@he mommy15, at 1st she was on Similac Advance. Our Ped put her on that 1st because she was loosing weight too fast breastfeeding instead of gaining. So to get her weight back fast he put her on that. It helped she gain a few ounces in a day and then almost a full pound in a week. The only thing is she was having horrible horrible gas. She couldn't even sleep peacefully because of the tummy gurgling and pushing to pass. She would cry and was just so uncomfortable. Multi on didn't work for her gas and Gripe Water only got us so far. On that one her poop would come with little fuss it was just runny. On Gentlease her gas comes fine, I rarely have to use gripe water anymore. She sleeps peacefully until she's about to wake up & Her poop changed to green and was somewhat liquidy but soft with texture. Until 2 this morning.
just do what you think is right! my son is on soy because gentlease gave him mucusy diarrhea so I just went straight to soy. I didnt want to keep switching formulas and it mess with his tummy. the soy is making him a little constipated, but he is also still going a few times a day. it turned into a playdough/clay texture. I called my ped and she just said to give dark karo syrup to him. I've done it for a few days and it's keeping him going, just not making it softer. now I'm giving him an ounce of apple prune juice since yesterday and his last one was much softer.
you can also try mylicon it helps my little girl when she is constipated @mommyluv...what formula did you have her on before
****** @Ali iecat_, @jgled000 @hsmommy15 ******* Thanks Mommys. I was thinking the formula too but didn't want to put every problem on the formula but I guess that's just how it is😕. Her Ped told me 3 days with no poop is ok as long as she doesn't go longer and that consistency is going to change but if she is constipated with pellets then we have a problem and will need to look at other formulas. She told me this on her 1 month check last week. My Babies original Doctor retired at the end of the year and so this woman is still new to me and I'm trying very hard to trust her ! Lol I'll continue to monitor it for now. It's just hard seeing you little one strain so much or in any pain ya know😟
when I switched formulas with my daughter she was constipated...it could be from just switching the formulas
same with me. just watch it and see how she does. @alliecat_ how is it on soy?
@mommyluv, I dont use baby water. I just use bottled water from walmart. his will have bubbles at first too, but if you let it sit a couple minutes then they go away. all formula will have bubbles when you mix it. I know that similac is the worst about it. enfamil has a lot less bubbles. I have read that other mom's premake their formula and refrigerate it for the day so that there are no bubbles when serving it. on my can it says you can premake it but just refrigerate and use within 24 hours.
