They still sell it because the company hasn't recalled it pretty much. the company has to publicly admit to being at fault for these kids defects and the hurt their family goes through, and recall their drug. if they don't do that then it will continue to be sold, and if your kid is born with a birth defect you can sue the company or just get a settlement with them. (If you get a settlement they agree to pay you x amount of money and you keep quiet about the whole ordeal)
it's just like thing like defective kids toys though, you can have this toy that is proven to over heat, start melting and be a serious fire hazard. one mom will witness the toy doing it and try to tell everyone else and raise awareness. every other mom will go "oh you're being stupid, if it was dangerous it wouldn't be sold." but then more and more mom's pop up saying "that happened to me too!" and people don't believe them. those mom's go to the company that makes the toy and the company denies it until enough mom's threaten to sue and make it all public, OR a kid gets seriously injured. then the company finally recalls the toy and goes public about the recall, then all those mom's who said "you're being stupid, it wouldn't be sold if it wasn't safe" are finding out that no, no one was being stupid, the toy is Infact dangerous.
if any is worried about it causing birth defects they do have different medication you take, if you have doubts dont take it.. but like many have said, birth defects are caused by numerous reason... you can be the healthiest women on a strick diet and watch everything you consume and you can still give birth to a baby with birth defects...
I'm not sure why it's still on the market, but my doctor told me she was going to give Promethazine bc many studies say Zofran leads to birth defects. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Why would the continue to sell it and prescribed it if it's not safe? That's the real question because they say so many have had birth defects but they still have people take it
i have a friend who all her children have defects because of her IV pic line of zofran that she had during her whole pregnancy i know some people who have perfectly healthy babies on it... i personally wont use it during pregnancy. i used diclegis. it have b6 and unisom in it
They could, but when they began making settlements, it was after extensive longterm research. basically the way the settlements worked was any woman who believes her baby had a defect due to Zofran gets in touch with the lawyer in charge of everything, and then a 3rd party decides whether or not the family has a valid reason to accuse "zofran" of causing it. after thousands of women have stepped up and had a certain result from the drug without any other possible causes then that's when they issue a warning staying that the drug could potentially cause defects.
I don't think so my mom had triplets, took it the whole time with them. they are 7 now and perfectly healthy (; I take it as well @crunchymomma @armywife062715 @wadlow0428
I'm not sure I used it with my first pregnancy and my son had a cleft lip @wadlow0428
no i dont.....birth defects be caused by anything i used zofran and my son is ok
I believe there wouldn't be thousands of lawsuits against Zofran if it didn't actually cause birth defects.
the whole "I've taken it and my baby is fine" really isn't a valid argument or excuse.
no iv taken it and my so far is healthy shes not here yet
I know a drug and a kids toy seem completely unrelated but it's the same concept.
