has anyone heard about having to have a shot because of your blood type?!? a friend told me she was O- (negative) and had to have a shot mid way through pregnancy because if she didn't her blood would fight off the babies blood like it was an infection or disease. I don't know what my blood type is but if it's anything negative like she said I'm going to be asking the doctor!! that's crazy to me!

I'm a lab tech and if you're already halfway through your pregnancy then the doctor would've probably let you know that you'll need it. having RH negative blood won't harm the first pregnancy but will create antibodies to your future babies, so that's why the give you a rhogam shot if you have RH negative blood (O-, A-, etc)

Only if the baby's blood type is different. My mom has O- and I have A+, so she had to get the shot during labor

They didn't to me. When I first found out they never told me anything like that. and then I started bleeding because I needed the shot. it's because my fiance and I have different blood types and my body was trying to reject the baby. But with the shot my body stopped trying to reject him.

They would have already told you if you were negative. They told me i was O- the very first time i had blood drawn, i had to get a shot during pregnancy and right after birth. I didnt need it at the time because the fathers blood is also O- and our son also ended up being O-. But they give it to you just to be safe. If your negative and the father is positive there is a big chance of your body fighting off the baby and resulting in miscarriage. This time around i do not need it because i know the dad is. O-

my boyfriend came with me to my appt today and was asking my Dr if it mattered what his blood type was, he said it did not.. but it could just be because my rh factor is negative and that's not gonna change. I do know with my first I almost had a miscarriage at 12 weeks, & that's how I found out I needed the shot. I started bleeding out of nowhere.

I'm not 100% sure.. I have a negative blood type so my rh factor is negative, so it's an issue with my blood.

@autumnjolene, yes it does cause if it has the fathers that is positive it's better than having negative it can be dangerous for the baby that's why they test the babies blood after it is born and it's the mothers (with negative blood ) will give it a shot so it won't be at risk . I had never hear of it till my ob told me my blood type and then told me the risk factor .

I have O- and hubby had A+ at 6 weeks I had bleeding and my body tried fighting baby off so I got one at 6 weeks and everything was okay. Daughter ended up having O+ blood so I'm lucky I got the shot, but yes, it's serious and that's one of the tests they do at the beginning when you get labs done.

Thanks @blessing2016 that's what she said that I would have a shot before and after. Does it matter what my boyfriends blood type is? And what are the risks of after the baby is born?? What do they test for?

I'm hoping that they didn't forget like they did with my friend, she was 26 weeks and apparently that was 2 weeks too late but the baby was fine @jess21.

Yeah anyone that has a negative blood type has to get the shot and your baby will then be tested after he/she is born. I'm sure if you had a negative blood type your doctor would have told you.

I was told I didn't have to get the Rhogam shot because I have A+ blood. In school I have learned that if I have negative blood and the baby has positive that there would be a higher risk for miscarriage and even not being able to get pregnant with a second child after the first and not getting that shot. How does it work with me having positive blood instead of negative and not knowing what type my son is since his dad doesn't know his blood type?

on the 6th October I did 2 test with 2 lines , 3rd test was clear blue digital and was positive 2-3 weeks I was waiting for a month for a midwife appointment.. so yesterday I started bleeding went today for a scan and they go to me no sac .. but can see a cyst or a sac outside the womb so therefore she did another test there and it was negative .. she said if it was positive it would have been ectopic pregnancy but because it was negative she said it's miscarriage. Has anyone else been through this as am so confused ?? As some saying maybe I wasn't pregnant at all and it gave me positive results
