Different units have different policies about how the antibiotics are given - most give at 4 hourly intervals rather than continously. Worth asking your midwife what the local policy is?

There's lots of information about UK policy at www.gbss.org.uk/Pregnant too.

They don't give you the antibiotics every 4 hours, they give it continuously for 4 hours and only when you are in labour. They don't treat you for it until then. I have been through it all twice now. @mummy1996

I had Strep B about a month ago in a urine infection, they'll give you antibiotics every 4 hours during labour. It does go away which is why they wont test me again until 36-38 weeks. i'm 24 weeks tomorrow. Talk to your midwife about it, if they find out that you have it then they will treat it there and then to make it go away, but it might come back, but they'll treat you as strep B positive through the whole pregnancy just in case. If you want to know more then let me know, only spoke with my midwife last week about it so its all fresh haha. It will be fine if they know you have it because they can treat it, its when they dont find it that it can cause problems. It comes and goes which is why its not a routine test :/ hope youre okay hun xx

They will still try hun. I had a quick labour with my first, 3 hours in total so I didn't manage to have all of the antibiotics. Do you know about using hand gel when baby is born? I had the antibiotics with my second and have chosen to have it with this baby aswel regardless of test results, which the midwife has agreed with. x

I had it with my first but it never actually goes away. When the did the test with my second it didn't show up and I haven't had results for this one yet. x
