I'm having a boy and his was 186 around that week. then it dropped to 146 as I got further along.

Wives tale would say that's a girl. My boy has been in the 150s :)

the saying is usually if it's a higher rate then girl boys have low heart rates

pretty much every babys hwartbeat is this high in the beginning. Honestly, the heart rate thing doesn't hold any truth to it. My son had a heartbeat of 183 at the beginning. And he's all boy. All four of my other kids aside from this one had high heart rates at the beginning, and only two were girls.
