They would feel like a cramping sensation then it would go away. Mines never hurted until it was almost time to push which is called the transition phase. The one thing about contractions is that they will always have a pattern. So they could start off 10 min apart then go to 5 min apart. Or something crazy like mines from my last baby and be 3 mins apart lasting a min each. You will also know because your breathing will change. Your body will start to take over for you.

You wont just think you are having them. you will know lol your stomach gets super tight I know for sure. it's been so long since I've had them but its definitely something you know you are having. they hurt!
