I've got a question and I need honest opinions.
So I've always been obsessed with the name Nathaniel for a boy but because my hubby has a Spanish accent he doesn't like the name. We settled with the name Nathan. Last year, my sister had a hard time finding a name for her son and when she was in labor guess what name she decided on? Nathan! I was highly upset because I had just had a miscarriage and I felt like I had told everyone I wanted to name my first son Nathan. My nephew was named Jesse Nathan because his dad wanted a jr. A few way too short months later, my nephew passed away. I still love the name Nathan and would still very much love to name a son Nathan. The problem is when my sister heard me say that -I was just talking absentmindedly with my sister in law- she flipped out. She got really pissed off and said how could I want to name my child after her dead son. I was floored. I went red in the face with embarrassment and went on the defense. I mean, I don't want to name him after my dead nephew. I always loved the name and if it gave me a piece of my nephew back, well I don't see it as a bad thing. But idk, I can live without the name, I just don't know what to think.
Anyways, the question is;
Is it really so bad that I want to use Nathan?
Sorry it's so long

if I was your sister I would see it as an honor to have his name carried on since he's no longer living.

@canaryv, Not at all if you decided on that name first she should respect that besides there's a ton of people with that name so what's the big deal

I say use it, your sister was wrong for stealing your name you loved

@kermi86, see that's what I was hoping she'd feel but she just yelled at me and didn't talk to me for the rest of the day. Like I get it, I really do. I miss him and wish he could be here still but that doesn't change the fact that life still goes on.

I mean honestly u could tell her the same thing. she took the name that u had chosen for your son that had also passed away so you are truly naming your baby after his big brother. but honestly if god forbid something ever happened to my nephew I would put part of his name in my child's name as commemoration and my sister would love that.

It's not like that was her sons first name.

@missmorton87, she acted like she never knew I had been planning on using that name :/ but I didn't get mad at her when she named my nephew that. Hell to be completely honest, I still planned on using it while my nephew was alive. I just never mentioned it to her

@quea, I never thought about it like that but you're completely right.
