I need advise! I'm a 38 year old about to have my first child (it's a girl!) I am now 28 weeks along. My husband of one year, has 2 children from a previous marriage, an 18 yr old son and a 13 yr old daughter. His 13 yr old daughter wants nothing to do with the baby, she has made it loud and clear for the world to know. My husbands family says to give her time and that she will come around once the baby is born, but to be honest I don't foresee that happening! Has anyone else experienced anything like this, and if so how did you handle it? I have this ideal image in my mind of how I would love for things to be, but I don't think I'm being realistic. Please help..

Lil bratt .. just keep your baby safe from her !! she won't be growing out of that any time soon.

It will definitely change with time. I was 12 years old when my little brother was born and I was not happy at all about it, to put it lightly. I was very angry and was really rude about it and said I would do nothing to help and all that... but by the time he was here I was very close with him and always have been. The idea of it seems scary to other children, like they think they won't get attention any more and stuff like that. I would still try to include her in buying things for baby sister and maybe she will come around. After baby is here she will definitely come around, I'm sure of it! My parents didn't even talk to me about the baby because I was so upset, but after he came I was so happy and have loved and taken care of him since day 1. He is almost 9 now, we are still very close and he is very excited to be an uncle 😍

lolllllll. I was the same way at 8 when my mom said she was expecting. I changed and I love babies now and would hurt everyone who ever tried to hurt my sister she's my world

That's what I'm afraid of! My husband makes up excuses for her and keeps saying that she will come along, but I don't think that she has it in her. My patience is already running out and I'm afraid the claws will come out once my baby girl is finally here. I'm sorry but I won't stand for any BS once my daughter is here. She needs time? I'm giving her 9 months!

^^ I just don't think that at all, and I suppose it could go either way but you shouldn't really have to worry about her hurting the baby or anything unless she was under five years old and doesn't understand right from wrong.. I was PISSED at my parents for bringing another baby into the world so unexpectedly, my mom was 40 years old and my brother and I 9 and 12, but it didn't take me more than a second to love him and care for him after he was born.

@momma_2_batbaby, was your little sister from the same marriage/ relationship? I think that's the main factor here. The fact that her dad is having another child (girl) from a different woman/ marriage

nope. I mean I call her biological dad my dad he raised me but both my siblings are from my mother and him. I don't have and full siblings

It is very hard to deal with something like that as a preteen/teenager. But unless she is extremely out of control and violent, I don't see why anyone would worry about her hurting the baby. If anything she just wouldn't care and wouldn't help you or do anything, but I can't tell you how ANGRY I was before my brother was born but I would never ever hurt him and pretty much raised him myself, which you wouldn't have ever expected with how ANGRY I was beforehand! He is my world and I would never let anyone hurt him. I have always loved him and protected him since the day he was born.

@babymay2016, God I hope you're right! There's nothing more I want than peace in our home. She keeps saying that she not her sister that they will only be "half" sisters

13 year old girls are so hormonal. I'm sure she will come along once the baby is born. She's been her dad's baby for 13 years, it's probably hard to wrap her mind around it all. If she refuses to have anything to do with the baby, it's her loss. Good luck!

I was half sisters with my sister but we where closer in age I suggest sitting down with her and your husband and seeing where her issues lye.. maybe she feels she will be forgotten or depending on how close you and her are it could be she dosnt concider the baby her sister, or she dosnt want to be stuck babysitting instead of enjoying her weekends... only she can tell you that though
Jessica Verdi·
@carmaslinsam, I agree it'll be her loss. Thank you, I will try to remain calm and level headed about my situation

I said some very awful things to my parents as a preteen/teenager. I'm sure I made my mom cry a million times while she was pregnant. Its just a very hard thing to deal with and teenagers don't know how to deal with their emotions! Raising girls is hard freaking work. She will most definitely come around. I was convinced that I would hate him, I asked "where are you gonna put IT? Cause it's NOT sleeping in my room!!!" I knew what sex was, I knew that my parents were both hitting 40 and asked them so many times why they even did this to us? They had already struggled with money my entire life, still do, and I was freaking livid. I said such awful things. But I swear I was a perfect little angel and took care of him every day. It is different from thinking about a new baby and a new baby actually being around. I never got mad at him for crying or anything like that. Have always taken care of him. I will say that I got mad one time right after he came home from the hospital, when he peed in my hair and my mouth because I was SCREAMING. Lol I'm sure anyone would get upset about that, but he is a baby and he didn't mean to and I understood all of that. She should too.

@aphrodite2014, we have done that, We sat down with both kids a few months ago. My husband asked his daughter why she was so upset about the baby. Her response was ... I don't want to talk about it so stop asking me. Her answer is still the same today. As far as my relationship with her, I'm as close to her as she will allow me to be. One moment she's fine and the next she has her wall up again. On top of everything else, she has many anger issues. She saw and heard a lot with her dad and mom as she was growing up. And I understand that, and I'm giving her time, but i don't think that gives her the right to be rude with everyone she comes in contact with. She treats my husband horribly and he just takes it ... It's very frustrating

@babymay2016, thank you for sharing your experience with me, I hope she will also learn to lover her little sister once she arrives. I'm glad that you were able to accept your sibling. That's a lot of anger and hate to have to carry for a long period of time

@emmarose0402, sounds like a typical teenager.. I'd keep asking to be honest it's going to tick her off but eventually she will get upset and finally spill about what her issue is. I was the same way I still don't say what's bothering me as much as I should but I'm getting better.. maybe take her out to do something nice like a little spa day or something maybe she will relax and open up.. maybe ask her about something completely unrelated to the baby. she is becoming a teenager anger is like the hub what the next few years 2 I'll be like for some unfortunately.. maybe she is into sports gice her something to keep her occupied.. or maybe find her someone to talk to that's not yall.. but is either a professional or a distant relative..

not too distant but maybe they can give you some tips without telling you what she thinks because if they do that then they will lose her trust

13 year olds are very irrational and from my experience they like to do and say things that will leave your mouth hanging open. you just be consistent and try not to force anything on her and im sure she will come around. it may not be soon but it will be eventually.
Jessica Verdi·
@btittneybryant92, thank you. We by no means force anything on her. We give her space and time. My fear is just that she won't come around when the baby is born causing friction at home. There's going to be enough change going on around here, we really don't need any negativity or extra stress
