I can understand once they have a tooth or much less allow them to chew on the tooth brush itself. But to wipe out a newborns mouth seems kinda of pointless aggravation for the baby, but that's just my opinion. @ryliannsmommy

you wipe it out to prevent thrush. especially after they spit up. I still wipe out my 8 month old's mouth. make sure you use something that won't leave lint in their mouths though! @kksmommy12 @ryliannsmommy

@kksmommy12, I think if it was important they would of told me or at least someone I know that has a baby. Lol I swear they come up with new stuff everyday

And how early should I start this? My baby is almost 5 weeks old and hasn't spit up ( knock on wood) at all. @isaiahjamesmommy

Yeah you're right, everyone has a different way of doing things though. I guess for baby's that do spit up a lot it would seem reasonable to me.

mine didn't for a long time either. I would still wipe his mouth out once in a while after he ate. @kksmommy12 I can't remember exactly when I started wiping his mouth out.

Doctors always told me to use a wet washcloth to wipe the gums and tongue to get any milk buildup off, always did it with my daughter.

Yes you are definitely supposed to clean their mouths. Babies store milk on their tongues, in their cheeks and just all inside of their mouth and the excessive build up can cause them to get thrush which can be painful for them. You should definitely be cleaning your babies mouth with a damp rag once a day starting basically when they're born.
