I am a FTM and I am considering breastfeeding, but I hear some horror stories about how it feels like your nipple is being ripped off.. Can someone list pros and cons for me? I know it is so much healthier. another question.. when you bottle feed you usually do about 3 to 4 Oz and burp every 1.5 to 2 oz.. how will I know when to stop feeding? I hope I don't sound stupid.. as I said I haven't ever been pregnant before and no women in my family breastfed.. TIA! :)

Okay I'll give it to you straight it does feel like your nipples are being ripped off for the first week or so but you have to take care of yourself as well. Get nipple cream to prevent cracking and make sure your baby has a good latch are key! The pain will go away I promise! But I'm not gonna lie it's a commitment. Breastfed babies eat a lot more often so you'll have to e ready to pop the boob out an feed. You can always pump(still feels like your nipple is being ripped off). Good luck!

You can ask your doctor if they can refer you to a lactation consultant and they will help you with everything!

A lady told me before when I was in the shower to get a wet, warm washcloth and to rub them over my nipples in the shower to toughen them up. I did it two weeks before he was before and it worked, I wish I had done it longer, but now you know! @ban ynumber1

Honestly the only pain I had from breastfeeding was being engorged when my milk first came in for a couple days. Breastfeeding was completely pain free. Pros: good for your baby, good for you, you will bounce back quicker, you'll lose a lot of weight, it's a beautiful bonding experience, you don't have to wash bottles, it's free, it makes night time feedings SO much easier, 9 times out of 10 sticking your boob in a crying baby's mouth will stop the crying (works on the hubby too lol). Cons: it's can be hard at first, you can have a hard time nursing in public if you're shy about whipping your boob out...that's pretty much it 😬 @ban ynumber1

I pump which is a pro you get to give your baby breastmilk but others can feed your baby if you don't want everything on you its extremely helpful. Also if you start pumping early you can freeze milk and save it if your supply goes down or you want to get away for a few hours.

It only hurts if your doing it wrong. Make sure the baby is not only sucking the nipple. Try to get the baby all the way on.
