Breastfeeding mamas! I need help. So my baby girl is 11 days old as of today and shes been in the NICU all 11 days. They are finally allowing me to put her to breast. I have NO IDEA what im doing . I have had a lactation consultant try to help me.. But i felt like she was trying to rip off my nipple instead. 😳😂
So Emmalyn will latch, she will go for my nipple, but once shes there she stops sucking. Or she will just lick at my nipple. I know this is a learning process im HIGHLY dedicated to making this work but im also extremely patient with her.
What are some tips/tricks/advice to get her to start nursing? She is drinking my milk. Ive been pumping for her and thats been what shes drinking at the hospital. Please help !

Idk about the licking part but once she latches and stops take your finger and massage her cheek. it encourages her to keep sucking

also if that doesn't work what I had to do was make him mad by tickling his feet, rubbing his back, etc. or someone would take him away from me so he'd start crying

Just keep at it, breastfeeding is very comforting and releases oxytocin, the love hormone, so your baby is getting sleepy and also since she's been using a bottle she's not used to having to work so hard for her meal! You have to limit how much she uses a bottle AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE so she gets more used to having to suck at the breast. As said above if she's falling asleep try tickling her feet or ear, I wouldn't run her cheek too much just because it triggers rooting reflexes and she may unlatch and relatch because of that....but persistence is key!!! The more she realizes boob is where food comes from, the better she will get at nursing!!! I want to say congratulations, you have been doing such a good job, being patient and trying as hard as you can do to the best for your daughter! Keep up the good work, don't give up, you and your baby WILL GET THIS! You seem to be producing plenty, and your baby just needs to learn as much as you do!!!

Breastfeeding a nicu baby is tricky. Keep asking for the lactation consultant to help you. The nurses may be able to help as well. Just doing kangaroo holds & putting her to breast should help.
